TARTUFFE is about to take the stage at the Workshop, and the Education & Engagement Team has partnered with nine different organizations to engage with the play’s themes of faith, storytelling, and community. From the Workshop’s long-time neighbors to artistic communities from across the city, these partners are actively working to bring people together to make art and celebrate identity. We encourage you to join us for one of our For the Culture events, meet our partners, and continue learning more about them below!

Interfaith Center of New York
The Interfaith Center of New York is a secular nonprofit organization, founded in 1997, that works to build relationships among New York City’s diverse religious communities and civic institutions, by bringing them together to solve common social problems.

ILERA
DeShannon Barnes-Bowens is the founder of ILERA and works as a spiritual psychotherapist, professional development trainer, and writer. Through ILERA, she offers workshops, programs and written content focusing on: spiritual injury, sexuality, vicarious trauma, sustainable self-care, and wellbeing. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri – St. Louis, and a master’s degree in counseling from Pace University. She has practiced Ifa-Orisa spirituality since 2001 and is an initiated priestess. Iya DeShannon was also ordained as an Interfaith Minister through One Spirit Interfaith Seminary in 2010. She served as a first-year dean, Assistant Director and Co-Director of the seminary program, ordaining 130 ministers during her tenure.

St. Luke in the Fields
In the 1980’s, the West Village based Church of St. Luke in the Fields was significantly impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and founded the AIDS Project of St. Luke’s. St. Luke’s served dinners and weekend teas to 35,000 people, welcoming, serving, fundraising, and holding funerals during a time when most houses of worship refused to do so. ALL were welcome then, and this remains true today. A continuation of that heritage, SATURDAY CHURCH (the first show in NYTW’s season) was based on Art & Acceptance, St. Luke’s Saturday evening drop-in program for LGBTQ+ young adults.

Join these partners for a post-show conversation on Dec. 2nd, AfterWords: Faith, Fraud, & Forgiveness.

Hebrew Union College
On the NY campus of HUC-JIR, we train cantors, rabbis, and interfaith pastoral care providers. Our chapel, classrooms, offices, library, museum, and student-run Soup Kitchen resonate with melody and words of Torah. Our students, faculty, and staff work hard to create a safe and respectful environment of risk-taking and integrated clergy formation, in a dynamic learning environment where all are valued. We are proud to be bound together in our sacred mission.

On Dec. 11th, the party continues after the show with our Virtuous & Vicious Ball at Hebrew Union College!

Rod Rodgers Dance Company
Rod Rodgers Dance Company, known as RRDC is a modern based company located in the heart of the East Village on Fourth Arts Block. We are dedicated to creating work about the human experience that is constantly evolving, and work that reflects upon the society that we live in today. Our aim is to not only use dance as our medium to speak out and of our experiences, but to allow relationships to form throughout and beyond our community of the East Village.

Poetic Theatre Productions
Poetic Theater Productions seeks to define the modern genre of “poetic theater” by connecting and fostering a community of artists who are passionately creating relevant and accessible work and reinvigorating a conscious theater of language. Poetic Theater Productions offers resources and opportunities for poets, playwrights, and theater artists to create new work and see it through to production via educational workshops, developmental readings and performance. PTP seeks out and creates opportunities to connect with communities affected by the issues of topic within our productions through collaborative projects and exchanges of art and ideas. Based in NYC’s historic East Village, Poetic Theater Productions has produced ten mainstage productions and seven festivals featuring over 160 unique events since its inception in 2010. We have worked with more than 650 artists, including 271 poets and playwrights, with a commitment to creating growth and production opportunities to our ever-growing community of artists.

Poetry Society of New York
The Poetry Society of New York is a 501(c)3 art-led nonprofit that creates fun, innovative poetry experiences. Our mission is to bring the transformative impact of poetry to those seeking a more creative life. We envision a world where poetry is not just celebrated, but vital and accessible to all: breaking down barriers, inspiring joy, and uplifting diverse voices. Our geographical focus is on New York state, but our programs serve audiences of all ages both nationally and internationally. Rooted in the belief that poetry belongs to us all, we create experiences of poetry where people from all walks of life can explore, express, play, and find a sense of belonging. By prioritizing accessibility, experimentation, collaboration, and undeniable fun, we foster innovation and community in the often stale and isolating literary sphere. Each of our programs offers an invitation into a vibrant poetry world specifically designed to stimulate discovery, wonder, and life-long friendships between creative souls.

FABnyc
FABnyc is a team of artists and organizers working to preserve, sustain, and grow the cultural vibrancy of the Lower East Side neighborhood. FABnyc was founded in 2001 by a coalition of cultural and community nonprofits on East 4th Street to save their homes. Today our commitment to sustaining the cultural character and diversity of the community extends across the LES: from 14th Street to Canal, from Bowery to the East River. FABnyc works in partnership with the community – bringing artists and arts strategies to fight physical and cultural displacement, build collective power and collaboration, increase equity and access to cultural resources and public space, and support local resiliency and community health.

On Dec. 18th, join us at FABnyc’s space at 70 E 4th St for a night of dance, poetry, and performance at our event, Masquerade: A Night of Truth & Performance Open Salon.
