Radical Access

Theatre isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity—a vital part of our culture that should be available to all. So we’re doing our part to remove obstacles that keep people from coming through our doors. At the end of the day, we want to make one thing clear—

YOU BELONG HERE!

CHEAPTIX & CHEAPTIX RUSH
All seats are $25 at the first two performances of every NYTW production as part of our CheapTix initiative. Additionally, young people, seniors, artists and neighbors can snag a $25 seat via CheapTix Rush at any performance.
10 BUCKS x 10 BLOCKS
If you live in the neighborhood, we hope you'll make NYTW part of your weekend routine. Complete a simple registration form and you'll have access for the whole season to purchase $10 tickets.
RADICAL ACCESS FOR LOCAL FAMILIES
Radical Access for Local Families (RALF) is meant to remove barriers for families by providing childcare and deeply discounted tickets to help you get theatergoing back into your life.
GROUP SALES
Theatre is a shared experience! Whether you're organizing a group of students or a collection of friends, we're at the ready to help and we'll hook you up with a group discount.
ACCESSIBLE SEATING
To honor body diversity and center accessibility, we both offer wheelchair-accessible seats with tipping arms and wide seats at all performances.
ACCESSIBLE PERFORMANCES
To extend the accessibility of our on-stage performances, we host open-captioned performances with a large LED captioning board that's visible to the entire audience and partner with HandsOn to provide ASL-interpreting.
ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES
FM Assistive Listening Devices are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis from the box office. An ID or credit card is required to borrow a listening device for the duration of the performance.
LARGE PRINT PROGRAMS
Large print programs are available free of charge at every performance. You can request one from the front-of-house staff, house manager or the box office representative.
RELAXED PERFORMANCES
All performances of My Joy is Heavy are Relaxed Performances! House lights will be dim and audience members are invited to express themselves and come and go as they please. The generative artists have considered decisions that ensure the social and sensory environment at the theatre is welcoming to a wider range of people, including autistic people, neurodivergent people, and people with sensory and communication disorders and learning disabilities.
MASKED PERFORMANCES
At select performances of My Joy is Heavy, we will require masks to create a more inclusive environment for all attendees, especially to people who might otherwise feel forced to stay home due to health risks. Concessions will be suspended at these performances.
AUDIO DESCRIPTION
At select performances of My Joy is Heavy, we will provide live audio description through receivers and headsets for our blind and low vision audience members.

When we say you belong here, we mean it! We offer a range of accommodations to make your visit to NYTW as welcoming, comfortable and accessible as possible. If you have a question or suggestions, please get in touch! Call us at 212-780-9037 (Monday–Friday, 10 am–6 pm, excluding holidays) or email LetsChat@nytw.org.

AT THE THEATRE

From the back of the theatre, there are steps down between each row from H to B.  There are two steps up to row K. Accessible tickets are available online, by phone and in-person at the box office (79 East 4th Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue).

View the standard seating chart for 79 East 4th Street.

WHEELCHAIR SEATING

Wheelchair-accessible seating is available in row J, seats 1 and 16 with tipping arms for those who wish to transfer. Companion seats are available in seats J 2–4 and J 13–15. When booking seats online, look for red dots on the seating chart.

If you’d like to remain in your wheelchair for the performance, our staff will remove the theatre chair. You can give us a heads up by emailing HouseManager@NYTW.org or calling the box office at 212-460-5475.

For guests who wish to transfer to a seat from their wheelchair, we’re more than happy to store your wheelchair in our lobby during the performance. The House Manager will return your wheelchair to you at intermission, the end of the performance or any other time you need.

WIDE SEATS

In an attempt to honor body diversity and center accessibility, we’re happy to have four 23.5” wide seats in the following seating locations: D1, F1, G1 and G22. In addition, our wheelchair-accessible seats—located in J1 and J16—are also 23.5” wide and feature drop arms. Please note that seat locations may vary by production. Please refer to the specific seating plan or reach out to us at LetsChat@nytw.org or 212-460-5475.

RESTROOMS

We have two restrooms in the lobby, one “GENERAL SEATING” restroom with two private toilet stalls and one “STANDING ROOM ONLY” restroom with a single toilet stall and two urinals. All stalls are equipped with handrails and the first stall in the “GENERAL SEATING” restroom is sized to accommodate mobility aids. The restroom doorways are 26″ wide.

The NYTW lobby is small and gets very crowded in the last 15–20 minutes prior to curtain. We encourage all audience members to leave extra travel time to avoid lines and allow a more leisurely ingress.

SERVICE ANIMALS WELCOMED

Service animals are welcome at New York Theatre Workshop and must rest in the seating area of the individual during the performance. Animals are unable to occupy the aisle during a performance.

LOOKING BACK AND MOVING FORWARD

We acknowledge that our location in the East Village and the architecture of our buildings has not historically been universally accessible. We’re actively taking steps to bridge those gaps by developing new initiatives to help make our theatre more welcoming. We’d love to hear from you about other accessibility projects we should consider or if you have feedback about your experience at NYTW. Get in touch with us by emailing LetsChat@nytw.org. We hope to hear from you!
