CASEBOOK allows audiences unprecedented access to the artists involved in the creation of a new work from rehearsal to production. Each year, New York Theatre Workshop designates one of its productions as a case study and hosts a class designed to provide theatre lovers of all experience levels with a true insider’s view of the life of a theatre artist and the process of realizing a full professional production. For the 2015/16 Season, the designated production is Hadestown by Anaϊs Mitchell, developed with and directed by Rachel Chavkin.

CASEBOOK: The Making of Hadestown runs for 10 sessions on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9PM from March 15th – May 17th, 2016*.

Moderators: Alexander Santiago-Jirau, NYTW Director of Education; Aaron Malkin, NYTW Literary Associate

Special Guests: James C. Nicola, NYTW Artistic Director; Jeremy Blocker, NYTW Managing Director; and the artists involved in the production of Hadestown, including writer Anaϊs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin.

Space is limited and registrations will be accepted on a rolling basis in the order in which they are received.

*PLEASE NOTE: Additional dates and times for observing dress/tech rehearsals will vary. The opportunity to observe tech rehearsals will take place during evening or weekend hours, with multiple opportunities offered to class participants.



Registration submission does not guarantee admission into the class. You will receive an automated confirmation email that your form has been successfully received. Registration forms will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Space permitting, you will be contacted to confirm your participation and process your payment.

Tuition price includes one ticket to a preview performance on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 followed by a reception. For NYTW Members, your ticket to the performance will be considered your membership ticket. 

Once you confirm your attendance, your payment will be processed. Full payment by credit card is required to finalize registration. Tuition can be paid ONLY be paid by credit card. PLEASE NOTE: Sessions will be held in NYTW’s 3rd Floor Rehearsal Studio (83 East 4th Street, between Bowery and 2nd Avenue). There is no elevator access to this space.
