MY JOY IS HEAVY is just around the corner here at the Workshop, and our Education & Engagement team has partnered with nine organizations to reflect on the conversations around love, joy, and care that The Bengsons open up through their piece. These themes of the show are embodied in the impacts our partner organizations have on families, caregivers, and artists. From groups working at the intersection of the arts and healing, to health service and advocacy organizations, to performance groups for artists of all backgrounds and identities, we are honored to be working with these partners. We invite you to join us for a post-show conversation or community gathering to get to know them more, and read more below in the meantime.
Rod Rodgers Dance Company, known as RRDC is a modern based company located in the heart of the East Village on Fourth Arts Block. We are dedicated to creating work about the human experience that is constantly evolving, and work that reflects upon the society that we live in today. Our aim is to not only use dance as our medium to speak out and of our experiences, but to allow relationships to form throughout and beyond our community of the East Village.
Rod Rodgers NeuroArts Wellness Lab
The Rod Rodgers NeuroArts Wellness Lab is the first community-based lab, bringing together scientists and teaching artists to research and create evidence-based programs, classes, and workshops exploring how the arts can measurably improve brain and body health, and address public health challenges in local communities.
Join us on March 1st from 11AM-1:30PM for our Arts & Community Day, featuring family-friendly arts workshops with RRDC and the NeuroArts Wellness Lab!
Autistic Theatremakers Alliance
The Autistic Theatremakers Alliance seeks to reduce stigma and increase inclusion of autistic persons in all aspects of theatremaking by providing support, encouraging conversations among stakeholders, educating theatremakers about including autistic persons, and providing financial grants for training for autistic persons wanting to learn about theatre.
At CO_LAB, artists with developmental disabilities don’t just participate in theater—they lead it, create it, and transform it. We build judgment-free, neurodiverse spaces where every actor discovers their voice and develops their talents while belonging exactly as they are. Through the magic of theater, we’re proving that what’s made possible on stage is possible in life.
EPIC Players (Empower, Perform, Include, Create), founded on August 25, 2016, is a nonprofit, neuro-diverse theatre company dedicated to creating professional performing arts opportunities and supportive social communities in the arts for Neurodivergent and Disabled artists. Via inclusive mainstage productions, musical cabarets, original showcases, skills-based classes and career resources, we hope to increase critical employment opportunities, pioneer increased inclusion in the arts, and break down social stigmas surrounding neuro-diverse communities.

The Poetry Society of New York is a 501(c)3 art-led nonprofit that creates fun, innovative poetry experiences. Our mission is to bring the transformative impact of poetry to those seeking a more creative life. We envision a world where poetry is not just celebrated, but vital and accessible to all: breaking down barriers, inspiring joy, and uplifting diverse voices. Our geographical focus is on New York state, but our programs serve audiences of all ages both nationally and internationally. Rooted in the belief that poetry belongs to us all, we create experiences of poetry where people from all walks of life can explore, express, play, and find a sense of belonging. By prioritizing accessibility, experimentation, collaboration, and undeniable fun, we foster innovation and community in the often stale and isolating literary sphere. Each of our programs offers an invitation into a vibrant poetry world specifically designed to stimulate discovery, wonder, and life-long friendships between creative souls.
