LET’S MEET

OPEN OFFICE HOURS

New York Theatre Workshop is establishing Open Office Hours, a pilot program to allow members of NYTW’s Artistic Staff to meet with new artists of all disciplines, prioritizing access for BIPOC artists.

Open Office Hours is designed as a free and open exchange of ideas, a space where NYTW Artistic Staff can learn about what you do and who you are—your experiences, visions and dreams as a person and as an artist —and begin the process of introducing ourselves and sharing our philosophies and practices. These meetings are not a place to evaluate work, nor are they auditions or job interviews, but instead a space where we can intentionally welcome transparency into the way we work and further a process of building community and cultivating relationships.

The first iteration of Open Office Hours will host sessions for two hours per week. We’ll host two different styles of gathering: group sessions and individual appointments. Participating Artistic Staff members include the Artistic Director, Casting Director, Literary Director & Dramaturg, Artist Workshop Producer and Director of Education.

Sign-ups are offered on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on Thursday, February 11 at 12pm EST.

If you have any questions, or you need to cancel for any reason, please email artistic@nytw.org In order to make sure we are able to fill each time, please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel. A waitlist is available when slots are filled, and by signing up for the waitlist you confirm that you could make that time if a spot becomes available.

Script Submission Guidelines

New York Theatre Workshop is driven by a desire to build and sustain relationships with artists. The artistic staff is in regular communication with our Usual Suspects and those with whom we have long-standing relationships. We accept agent submissions and regularly attend readings, festivals and productions at local, national and international venues. Our developmental and production opportunities are programmed through these channels.

If your work is unable to come to us through one of these avenues, NYTW will accept submissions, including solo pieces, musicals, full-length and one-act plays, to familiarize ourselves with your work. We recommend that you peruse our history and production archives to get a better understanding of the kind of material we develop and produce. Unless otherwise discussed with a member of the NYTW artistic staff, your submission will only be reviewed if it includes all of the following components:

  1. Cover letter articulating how your piece speaks to NYTW’s mission and body of work
  2. Synopsis
  3. Ten-page dialogue sample

Due to the high volume of submissions we receive, we can only respond to the projects that we wish to pursue. Please be patient. Turnaround time for material sent to our office is approximately six months. We need this time to give every submission ample review. We read every submission, and after reading a synopsis/sample, we may ask to see the entire script.

FULL SCRIPTS SHOULD NOT BE SUBMITTED UNLESS REQUESTED.

We only accept emailed submissions addressed to Literary@NYTW.org. In the subject heading please type: “Synopsis Submission.”
