Flemish director Ivo van Hove is the artistic director of Holland’s leading repertory company, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, and is known throughout Europe as one of the continent’s true theatrical innovators. At NYTW, van Hove previously directed visually rich and emotionally complex productions of More Stately Mansions (1997, OBIE award) and A Streetcar Named Desire (1999). This ingeniously imaginative director and his longtime collaborator, production designer Jan Versweyveld, return to NYTW with Ibsen’s masterpiece Hedda Gabler, in a translation by Christopher Hampton. Elizabeth Marvel, who won an OBIE award for her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in van Hove’s production of Streetcar at NYTW, will play Hedda.
