Read Synopsis

“THIS IS A DREAM – one of the most entertaining you’re ever likely to have – that you get to experience while you’re wide-awake.” –Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“A METAPHYSICAL SLAPSTICK COMEDY.” –David Cote, Time Out New York

While eating a quiet dinner at home, Mr. and Mrs. “Fritz” Fitzhubert (along with an uninvited guest) are summoned through a mysterious tiny door in their living room. On the other side, they find themselves in a phantasmagorical Alpen hotel where forgotten religions seep in through the cracks in the walls. Lost relatives, conniving employees, and chatty society ladies awaken their mysterious ancient selves and lead them on perilous hikes that will leave their lives forever altered.

NYTW’s Obie and Lortel award-winning company-in-residence Elevator Repair Service, best known for their innovative adaptations of American literary classics like The Sound and the Fury, The Select (The Sun Also Rises) and Gatz, breaks new ground with the world premiere of Fondly, Collette Richland by Sibyl Kempson, its first collaboration with a living playwright. Kempson, an NYTW Usual Suspect, and the company create a richly detailed and darkly comedic world brought to vivid life by an unforgettable ensemble under the direction of ERS Artistic Director John Collins.
