Request for Letters of Intent to Apply:
Emerging Artists Fellowships |
October 28, 2011
New York Theatre Workshop is now accepting letters of intent to apply for the following 2012 / 2013 Emerging Artists Fellowships. Pending funding, NYTW will accept up to six emerging artists for the 2012 / 2013 season. These fellowships would entail a commitment from June 2012 to June 2013.
· Up to six (6) fellowships total for directors and playwrights
Since 1995, New York Theatre Workshop’s Emerging Artists Fellowships have provided promising young theatre artists with essential support to assist their development, as well as access to the substantial resources of an off-Broadway producing theatre and community of artists. Specifically designed to identify artists of color, this program grew out of NYTW’s fundamental belief that a diversity of thought, experience and culture is crucial to theatrical innovation.
Fellows are given access to rehearsal space, office facilities and equipment, casting assistance, mentoring, and other forms of support as determined on an individual basis. In addition, pending funding, all Fellows will be awarded a modest stipend and offered occasional group theatergoing opportunities that may include travel.
We seek dedicated and motivated candidates who wish to develop their talents and skills by participating in a dynamic, artist-centered creative community. |

| ABOUT NYTW |
Founded in 1979, NYTW’s sole purpose is to ensure the robust and compelling presence of the artist in our society. This mission is manifested in two distinct focuses of activity: through producing an annual season of productions in our 199-seat theatre in Manhattan’s East Village and second, by inviting theatre-makers at all stages of their careers, with whom we share a common vision, to participate in our Artists Workshop programs. This dual programming, on our stage and in our “workshop,” allows NYTW to develop and produce theatrical experiences that reflect and respond to the world around us and re-invigorate the artists and audiences we connect with each year. Over the course of almost thirty years, the Workshop boasts a long list of acclaimed work that includes Jonathan Larson's RENT, Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul, Martha Clarke's Vienna: Lusthaus (revisited), Caryl Churchill's Far Away and A Number, John Guare's Lydie Breeze and Claudia Shear's Dirty Blonde. NYTW’s productions have received a Pulitzer Prize, four Tony Awards and assorted Obie, Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards.
NYTW is a member of Theatre Communications Group, the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York, Fourth Arts Block (FAB), and the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers. |
