Fourth Arts Block (FAB) FAB is an association of 13 nonprofit cultural and community organizations based on East 4th Street between Bowery and Second Avenue in Manhattan's East Village. FAB's members include eight theatre companies, two dance studios, a film workshop, a tenant's rights/housing preservation organization, and a low-income housing management company. NYTW has been an active member of FAB since its formation nearly five years ago, and is instrumental in leveraging support from city and state legislators to make this the first official cultural district in Manhattan. During the fall of 2005, in a historic deal, the members of FAB purchased six buildings from New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which have been designated cultural properties in perpetuity. FAB’s block is home to a diverse range of arts groups with an outstanding record for community outreach, racial and ethnic diversity, artistic innovation, and free and low-cost programs for emerging artists, youth, and the general public. Each year 200,000 people attend performances, workshops, readings, and classes involving over 1,200 artists on the block. As part of its participation in FAB, NYTW is an active member of the FAB collective fundraising team, and has made its resources available to fellow FAB members, including free use of its studio theatre for rehearsals and productions.
