DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

NEW YORK THEATRE WORKSHOP, one of New York’s leading Off-Broadway theatres is seeking a Director of Development to work with the Artistic and Managing Directors to lead a dynamic team in raising over $2.5 Million annually as well as preparing long range fundraising and capital campaign strategies. Qualifications include a minimum 5-7 years in fundraising leadership position, with proven track record of securing significant foundation grants and/or major gifts. Must exhibit a capacity to motivate and guide Senior Staff and Board of Directors and possess excellent writing, editing and communications skills. B.A. degree required.

Design, implement and expand all aspects of its fundraising program, focusing on foundations, government and major individual gifts and to play a leading role in the institution’s strategic planning process.

Major Responsibilities:
• Set strategies and develop and oversee all fundraising concepts, plans and operations for all contributed income for   operations and capital campaigns;
• Work closely with the Board of Directors and Managing Director to set goals and direction and to broaden the support   base with a particular emphasis on major gift expansion;
• Manage donor stewardship, including developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies and managing   the team that represents NYTW to funders and prospects;
• With program staff, manage program development activities to identify and shape fundable projects, create donor and   public programs and facilitate liaisons with funders;
• Direct proposal and budget development and design and execute funding appeals; manage grant reporting; supervise   prospect research and maintenance of donor databases;
• Oversee creation of NYTW’s external communications tools including annual reports, newsletters, institutional   promotional and events materials;
• Work with Director of Education to strategically align NYTW’s mission in building youth and public education programs
• Supervise the work of external consultants on NYTW’s lobbying activities, benefits, and long range capital planning;
• Manages NYTW’s relationship with elected officials, government representatives, local community boards and affiliated   groups;
• Serve with other NYTW Senior Managers to participate in organization-wide planning and decision-making;
• Work with the senior staff and board on the long term facilities and capital programs;
• Supervise development and education staff.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5-7 years in fundraising leadership position, with proven track record of securing significant foundation grants and/or major gifts

Strategic thinker

Effective team leader and manager

Capacity to motivate and guide Senior Staff and Board of Directors

Excellent writing, editing and communications skills

Ability to manage multiple projects

Related communications experience a plus B.A. degree required
