PRODUCTION HISTORY


October 2001 Betty Shamieh begins writing the play.

January 2002 Shamieh directs the first public reading at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum as part of an Immigrants Theatre Project festival.

August 2002 Shamieh and Sam Gold collaborate on a workshop production at the Hanger Theatre Lab in Ithaca, NY.

March 2003 Shamieh and Gold present a reading at St. Clements Church in the first Theaters Against War (THAW) Festival.

February 2005 Shamieh and the Magic Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Jessica Heidt do a workshop at the Lark Play Development Center.

March 2005 Shamieh develops the play at the Sundance Theatre Residency program.

May 2005 The Black Eyed receives its world premiere at Magic Theatre, San Francisco, CA. Chris Smith, Artistic Director; David Gluck, Managing Director.

October 2005 The play has a reading at the "Beyond the Stigma: Palestine/Israel/USA through Art" conference at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

April 2006 Shamieh and Lee Breuer workshop the play during their fellowship year at Harvard University's Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies and present a reading at the American Repertory Theatre.

August 2006 Shamieh and Gold workshop the play at NYTW's summer residency at Dartmouth.

December 2006 A student production of the play at Brandeis University is selected to be part of the Brandeis University Leonard Bernstein Festival for the Creative Arts.

April 2007 The Greek premiere opens at the Theatre Fournos of Athens under the direction of Takis Tzamargias and translated by Athina Paraponiari.

June 2007 Rehearsals begin for the production of The Black Eyed at NYTW.

July 2007 The Black Eyed opens at NYTW.
